There is so much aesthetic play in this clip that I get lost between an intellectual and an emotional response. So beware- there is more than just logic at play here. That said, I found this video to be a nice introduction to the concept of 'control societies' as described by Gilles Deleuze.
Well I'm not going to lie - there was a lot in there I didn't understand, especially about the structure, but, "...there's no need to hope or fear for Deleuze, only to look for new weapons..." is a thought I can get behind.
ReplyDeleteAnd liquid books are a great idea.
After watching the video, I thought I had better google Control Societies and luckily I found something similar to the narration. I guess I have to think of three types of societies: sovereign, disciplinary and control and relate these to different societies we have now. Like a control society would be an advanced country like America or Germany and a disciplinary country like Korea, who is moving to become a control society and a sovereign society like Bangladesh. And I guess in disciplinary societies we are controlled as groups but in control societies we are controlled as individuals and that this control is constantly changing. Maybe? Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteHere is a very good text that is very similar to the narration: http://www.n5m.org/n5m2/media/texts/deleuze.htm
Just trying to get this working, again. My original blog wasn't linked to this one.
